At their May branch meeting the Gosport Branch of the Submariners Association hosted a group of Chelsea Pensioners. Before joining the Submariners at the Royal Naval Association Gosport, the Chelsea Pensioners enjoyed a visit to HMS Alliance at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum.
On arrival at the RNA they were met by the Chairman of the Gosport Submariners Association , Steve Thorpe MBE and during the visit Steve presented the Chelsea Pensioners with a branch crest. Branch members ensured that the Pensioners were made very welcome and joined them to exchange stories and share a few drinks whilst the buffet was served.
Major Frankie Powell gave a short address to the members on what the Chelsea Pensioners are, their history and future. This was followed by a presentation on the Submarine Service by the Director of Submarines, Rear Admiral Simon Asquith CB, OBE. The presentation was very much appreciated by both the Chelsea Pensioners and the branch members. Feedback from the visit has been very positive and the branch have been invited to visit the Pensioners later this year.
