To mark the 16th anniversary of two serving submariners, Anthony Huntrod (20) and Paul McCann (32) who both sadly lost their lives in a tragic incident that occurred on the 21st March 2007 on board HM Submarine TIRELESS. A short, but poignant service was held at the National Arboretum, led by the Rev. David Chadwick, in the presence of Anthony’s parents, Alan Huntrod and Brenda Gooch, Paul’s parents Brian and Pauline McCann also, family and friends from both families supported by members of the three North East Branches of the Submariners Association, the Derbyshire Submariners and the Royal Naval Association, as well as some former crew members from HMS TIRELESS who served with both Anthony and Paul.
The group travelled by coach, organised by the Sunderland Branch, with generous assistance from the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity, The Submarine Family and Keith’s Coaches. An informal gathering took place at the Submarine Memorial and a service was conducted by the Rev. David Chadwick, during which Branch Standards were in attendance and were dipped as a mark of respect in memory of both Anthony and Paul.
