John Francis Alsford was born at Limehouse, London on 17 April 1893, the son of John William and Eliza Jane Alsford (née King), of 57, Cuthbert Rd., Wood St., Walthamstow. On his Royal Navy Service Documents, his middle name is spelled Frances and his date of birth shown as 17 April 1895.
He was accidentally killed on 6 May 1918 when he lost his footing and was electrocuted when thrown against the switchboard.
He is buried in East London Cemetery, Plaistow, Essex.
