James Bailey was born on 24 April 1878 at Kensington. His father was James Bailey, a wheelwright. He married Susannah Gyde, a blacksmith’s daughter, at Stratford, London on 9 July 1911. Their son, Arthur Giles Bailey, was born on 26 November 1916.
He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
