William Henry was the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Jane Charge, born and raised in the area of St George Hanover Square, London & Middlesex with his brother & two sisters.
Born on 1 September 1880, he made himself younger by three years when he joined the RN in 1899 giving his date of birth as 7 September 1883. He joined the Submarine Depot Ship HMS THAMES in 1906 and continued service in submarines up to the loss of HMS C11 on 14 July 1909, naming his sister as Next Of Kin.
