William Cook was born at Woolwich, Kent on 2 April 1891.  He was the son of George and Rose Cook of Plumstead, London and the husband of Lily Cook of Albion Road, Woolwich.  Prior to serving in HMS K17 he served in HMS E9 where he was advanced to Leading Stoker on 1 April 1916.

He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 29.
