Arthur de Bank was born on 11 June 1895 at Woodford, Essex, the son of James and Rhoda de Bank of Woodford Green, Essex; he was the oldest of nine children. He joined the Royal Navy on 27 April 1914. Before serving in submarines he saw action at the Battle of Jutland in the battleship HMS BENBOW.
He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 29 and on the memorial in the churchyard of St. Barnabas Church, Woodford Green.
