Vincent Finn was born on 5 July 1913, the son of Seymour and Rosa Finn of Delph, Yorkshire. He joined the Royal Navy before his eighteenth birthday and his reckonable time started on 5 July 1931. He was rated Wireless Telegraphist on 1 December 1931, Leading Telegraphist on 31 December 1935 and Petty Officer Telegraphist on 28 July 1937.
He joined submarines on 4 March 1935 at HMS DOLPHIN and his first boat was HMS H32 attached to the depot ship HMS ALECTO. He joined HMS H31 on 24 June 1936 where he served until late 1937 when he took passage to Hong Kong to join HMS MEDWAY from where he joined HMS REGENT on 12 December 1938. He remained in REGENT until joining HMS TRAVELLER on 24 October 1941.
He is commmemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial and the war memorial in the grounds of Christ Church, Denshaw, Greater Manchester.
