Malise Graham was born on 15 September 1897 at Oporto, Portugal, the eldest son of  Major J D Graham, Lothians and Border Horse, and Mrs Nancy Graham (née Stewart) of Queen’s Hill, Ascot and Airthrey Castle, Stirlingshire.

He was educated at Sandroyd School and the Royal Naval College, Osborne.  He served in the cruiser HMS CARNARVON at the Battle of the Falkland Islands in December 1914 and in the battleship HMS BARHAM at the Battle of Jutland.  He was slightly wounded in March 1917 serving in the minesweeper HMS ABYSSAM when it hit a mine.

He volunteered for submarines in October 1916 and joined HMS DOLPHIN for training on 2 April 1917 until 2 June 1917 when he was appointed to HMS LUCIA “for submarines”.  He was lost overboard from HMS G8 on 22 June 1917.

He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial Panel 24 and on the British war memorial in Oporto.
