William Hobbs was born on 1 Mar 1883 in Cardiff. He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Hobbs of Wood Road, Pontypridd. He joined the Royal Navy on 11 July 1899 at HMS IMPREGNABLE at Devonport after which he served in the cruiser HMS BLACK PRINCE, the battleships HMS CAESAR and HMS REVENGE. He married Elizabeth Williams of Pontypridd in 1907. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial Panel 13 and in the Pontypridd Roll of Honour.
