Peter Hunt was born in Wolverhampton on 1924, the youngest of the three daughters and two sons of Mr Bernard Emery Hunt (Company Director, Works Manager Edge Tool Trade) and Mrs Audrey Kathleen Hunt (née Down).
He was appointed Temporary Midshipman, RNVR on 10 December 1943. He was later promoted to Temporary Acting Sub Lieutenant, RNVR. Having volunteered for ‘Special Service he was appointed to HMS VARBEL ‘for X Craft training’.
Peter Hunt was lost on Saturday 22 April 1944. He is reported to have fallen overboard from HM Drifter SOLSTICE and was presumed to have drowned although precise details of the accident are not known. Sub Lieutenant Peter Hunt of The Lodge, Chamberlain Lane, Penn, Wolverhampton is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial on Panel 88, Column 1 and on the 12th Submarine Flotilla memorial at Rothesay on the Isle of Bute and at Kylesku.
