William Newnham was born at Ryde Isle of Wight on 25 May 1892, the son of William Newnham and his wife Emma (née Wilson) of St Andrews, Fife. He was educated at Royal Hospital School, Greenwich. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial Panel 12 and on a tablet at St Andrew’s Church, St Andrew’s, Fife.
