William Roberts was born on 15 November 1890 at Newport, Monmouthshire. He was the son of John and Jane Lovell Roberts of Lower Broughton, Manchester. Before joining HMS K13 he saw action at the Battle of Jutland in the destroyer HMS MARNE.
He is buried in Faslane Cemetery.
