George Robertson was born in Gosport, Hampshire, on 23 November 1885, the son of Andrew Reuben of Southampton and Priscilla Elizabeth (née Kent) who was born in Gorey, Jersey..  At birth he was named George Thomas William. Priscilla always stated on official forms that the birth place was the Channel Islands.

George was the tenth child born though brother Charles Archibald born in 1881 sadly passed away at only 1 year old.  His father died in 1888 when George was only 3 years old but the family stayed together in Alverstoke until the mother’s death in 1914.

George served in the Royal Navy as Robertson, George.  He married Florence in the summer of 1905 and they had two children Florence Priscilla Winifred in 1906 then George Thomas William in 1908.

He died on 14 July 1909 when HMS C11 was sunk in a collision in the North Sea, with twelve other members of the crew.
