Frederick Smith was born on 28 February 1878 at Poplar, London. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Smith and the husband of Lilian Smith of Walthamstow. He was a Freemason, a member of the United Brethren 1923 of Malta. He is buried in Faslane Cemetery.
