Geoffrey Biggs was born in 1885, the son of John Biggs and Emily Sophia Biggs (née Clark). He joined the Royal Navy in 1900.
Promoted to Lieutenant in 1906, his next appointment was to the Submarine Depot Ship HMS MERCURY in 1907 ‘for Command of Submarines’. In 1909 he was appointed to the Depot Ship HMS FORTH ‘for Submarine B6 in Command’ then the following year to HMS MERCURY ‘for Submarine C32 in Command’. A further command appointment followed in 1911 when he returned to the Depot Ship HMS ARROGANT ‘for Submarine A1 in Command’
Geoffrey Biggs then left submarines for his ‘Big Ship’ time in the Surface Fleet with an appointment to the battleship HMS VENERABLE and a further appointment to the battleship HMS HINDUSTAN in1912.
On return to submarines, he took command of HMS C16. Promotion to Lieutenant Commander followed in 1914 and he was appointed in command of HMS E30 in 1915.
HMS E30 is presumed to have been lost with all hands in a previously unknown minefield off Orford Ness on 22 November 1916.
Geoffrey Biggs was the husband of Daisy Elizabeth Biggs (née Boys) and he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval War Memorial on Panel No 10.
