Harry Finch was born at Chelmsford, Essex on 6 June 1888, the son of William, a gardener, and Alice Finch (née Bonnington), one of nine children. He joined the Royal Navy on 10 May 1909 after working as a turner and served in the cruisers HMS BERWICK and HMS DIAMOND and the battlecruiser HMS INDOMITABLE before serving in submarines. He is Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 17.
