ERA 3rd Class (CPO) Eric Varley, F/MX 52497, lost his life on 27 April 1942 in HMS URGE. He was mentioned in despatches on 29 September 1942.
The son of John and Hannah Eden Varley of Horden, Co Durham, he was born on 27 March, 1914. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, the HMS URGE Memorial in Malta and at the parish church of St Mary the Virgin, Horden.
