Roy Richard Weberstadt was born in Surrey on 22 April 1958, the son of Mr and Mrs Weberstadt (née Thomson). He joined the Royal Navy, and was appointed Midshipman on 1 January 1977. He was promoted to Sub Lieutenant on 1 January 1979 and was appointed to the Leander Class frigate HMS SIRIUS. He joined HMS DOLPHIN for the Submarine Course in 1980. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 August 1981 and served in HMS SOVEREIGN, HMS OBERON, and HMS TURBULENT.

Roy Weberstadt completed the Submarine Commanding Officers Qualifying Course in 1988 and was appointed to HMS OSIRIS in command. Promotion to Lieutenant Commander followed on 1 August 1989. He served in HMS NEPTUNE on the staff of Captain, Submarine Sea Training and then in MoD London. Roy Weberstadt was promoted to Commander on 31 December 1993 and was appointed to HMS TRIUMPH in command, then to FOSM Staff (Joint Support Unit, Northwood) & lastly to MoD London.

Roy Weberstadt is reported to have died in Slough, Berkshire on Saturday 12 June 1999. He was married to Miss Dinah Eve Chester (2/O WRNS) in Doncaster, Yorkshire in April 1984.

  1. Roy was taken much too early. I had the privilege of serving with him and a more professional or nicer man one could not find. Here he is seen on AC’s course in 1984.
