Alastair Stewart was born in Salford, Greater Manchester in July 1969. He joined the Royal Navy as a Midshipman (E) on 1 November 1986. He was promoted to Acting Sub Lieutenant (E) on 1 September 1988 and from then until 1990 he was studying at the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.
He was further promoted to Lieutenant (E) on 1 November 1990 and in 1991 joined the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon. This was followed in 1992 by the Marine Engineering School, HMS SULTAN in Gosport. He was then appointed to HMS SUPERB as Assistant Marine Engineering Officer and served in that post from 1993 to 1995.
Alastair Stewart returned to HMS SULTAN in 1996 before being appointed to the Directorate of Nuclear Propulsion in Bristol where he served from 1997 to 1999, and was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander (E) on 1 November 1998. In 2000 he was appointed to HMS VIGILANT (Starboard Crew) as the Deputy Marine Engineering Officer.
Alastair Malcolm Stewart is reported to have died in Scotland on the 11 May 2001 but he circumstances of his death are not yet established. He is buried in St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Salford.
