Arthur Barnes was born in 1876, the son of Joseph and Charlotte Barnes, late of Brightlingsea, Essex; husband of Ethel E. D. Histed (formerly Barnes), of Upper Dovercourt, Harwich. He was a member of the Blagdon No 659 Masonic Lodge and is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 23 and The (1921) Masonic Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
