Graeme Black, from Ontario, Canada, served in the South Lancashire Regiment & No 2 Commando.
He was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in successful combined operations, against the enemy at Vaagso and Maaloy. He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Order in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the field.
He was in command of the raiding party from No. 2 Commando who took part in Operation Musketoon, being landed from the Free French submarine JUNON on 15 September 1942. The objective was to destroy the Glomfjord power plant, South of Narvik, which supplied an aluminium plant in the area. The raid was a success however seven of them were captured, and later executed on 23 October 1942 under Hitler’s Commando Execution Order, at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
