Arthur Blake was born in Carraghduff, County Leitrim, Ireland on 8 August 1913, the son of Arthur Laurence Blake and Winifred M Blake (née Hopkins). It is not known when he joined the Royal Navy or the Submarine Service. It is possible that he was a member of the crew of HMS SEADOG and was accommodated in the Submarine Depot Ship HMS AMBROSE. At that time HMS SEADOG was refitting at Dundee and repairing damage from a grounding incident in January 1944.

Arthur Blake died in the RN Auxiliary Hospital at Kingseat, Fife on Thursday 6 July 1944 from infective endocarditis. He is commemorated at the Glasnevin (Prospect) Cemetery on the Screen Wall, Panel 1 in Ireland and is buried in the St. Patrick’s Sec. Grave H.K.133.5.
