Leopold Blake was born in Larne, Ireland, in 1919, the son of Leopold and Agnes (née Moore) Blake. The 1938 Electoral Roll had him registered at Culver Signal Station, Bembridge, Isle of Wight.

He joined HMS UPHOLDER on 9 November 1941 and died when the submarine was lost with all hands, probably on 14 April 1942, but not officially posted as lost until 18 April when it failed to return from patrol.  

He was awarded the DSM – see the London Gazette of 5 May 1942 and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 66.
