John Borne was born at Falmouth, Cornwall, on 5 August 1874, the son of Robert and Fanny Borne. He joined the Royal Navy on 26 April 1898. He was the husband of Margaret Borne and lived at Modbury, Devon. He died of heart failure on 24 January 1919 and is buried in the churchyard of St George’s church, Modbury.
