Christopher de Saumarez Brock was born in Langley Burrell, Wiltshire, on 26 December 1898, the son of Lancelot de Saumarez Brock and Katherine Brock. He saw service in the battleship HMS VENERABLE and HMS ABDIEL, before spending 15 months at Cambridge University.
He joined HMS KING GEORGE as a Lieutenant in April 1920 and joined submarines in April 1921. Brock served in HMS L11 and then L56, firstly as Navigator and then, from February 1922, as First Lieutenant. After passing the Commanding Officers Qualifying Course in 1926, he took command of HMS H33 in March 1926, then, as a Lieutenant Commander, of L71 in February 1928.
In June 1931 he was part of the British Naval Mission to Greece and, on his return home, he took command of HMS L18 in December 1931. Promotion to Commander followed in December 1932. Having been transferred to the Retired List, Brock was recalled for further service on the outbreak of WW2 and was appointed to HMS COCHRANE (the Depot Ship at Rosyth) as one of the four Duty Commanders on the Area Command HQ Operational Staff in August 1939. He was later appointed to HMS EXCELLENT.
Christopher Brock died on 29 November 1942 in an air crash in a Sunderland aircraft, probably lost over the Bay of Biscay. He was the husband of Dora Ruth Brock (née Lamour) of Langley Burrell, Wiltshire and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval War Memorial on Panel No 61 Column No, 2.
