Jack Glanfield Brown was born in Ipswich on 26 January 1889, one of seven children of John and Henrietta Brown. He served at the Battle of Jutland in the destroyer HMS MILLBROOK, part of the 11th Destroyer Flotilla.

He was lost with the majority of the crew of HMS K17 in the infamous “Battle of May Island”.  He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, the Ipswich War Memorial and the Memorial Wall at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum at Gosport.
