James Brown was born in Dunston, Tyne and Wear, on 22 February 1955, the son of James and Veronica Brown. He joined the Royal Navy and trained and qualified as a Radio Operator and as a submariner.

In December 1974 he was serving in the HMS GRAMPUS which was one of the submarines of the 1st Submarine Squadron based at HMS DOLPHIN in Gosport, Hampshire.

It is reported that he died in the shore accommodation in Vulcan Block, HMS DOLPHIN, on 26 December 1974. James Brown is buried in the Garden House Cemetery in Swallwell, Tyne and Wear in the same grave as his parents.

  1. Buster was serving on Grampus with me at the time of his death but he passed away in the inboard accommodation in Vulcan Block, HMS Dolphin. RIP Buster
