He trained as an Able Seaman (Sonar) and also qualified as a submariner. In November 1975 he was a member of the crew of the Oberon Class Submarine HMS OCELOT based with the 1st Submarine Squadron at HMS DOLPHIN in Gosport.
Richard Cheesborough of 108, St Neots Road, Sandy, Bedfordshire, is reported to have died on 29 November 1975 as the result of a motorcycle accident on the A603 in which his fiancée (Lesley Huckin) who was his pillion passenger was also killed. It has been suggested that in fact he had actually got married that day and he and his wife were off to their honeymoon on his motorcycle when they were involved in the accident. Cheesy was on Ocelot at the time of his death. We had a kit sale for his family in the Atlantis Club in Dolphin. Can’t remember how much we raised but I paid around £15 for his light blue Nos 1 collar… RIP Cheesy
