Amos Collings was born on 26 August 1904 at Calstock, Cornwall. Before joining the service he worked as a footman. He joined the Royal Navy on 6 January 1922 at HMS VIVID at Devonport. He married Ida Winifred Collings on 6 June 1930 at St Georges Church, Barrow-in-Furness. They lived at Mount Pleasant, Barrow and their son, David was born three months after his father’s death.
