Alexander Douglas was born in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1922. He was the son of James and Helen Douglas. He died on 11 September 1944 when sleeping in a hammock just clear of a hydraulic ram. The ram moved across at full power killing him instantly. At the time HMS SCEPTRE was lying off Bergen, Norway, having towed HMS X-24 there for a raid on the floating dock in Operation HECKLE. X-24 was successfully recovered and Douglas was buried at sea off Bergen. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 75.
