Alexander Douglas was born in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1922.  He was the son of  James and Helen Douglas.  He died on 11 September 1944 when sleeping in a hammock just clear of a hydraulic ram.  The ram moved across at full power killing him instantly.  At the time HMS SCEPTRE was lying off Bergen, Norway, having towed HMS X-24 there for a raid on the floating dock in Operation HECKLE.  X-24 was successfully recovered and Douglas was buried at sea off Bergen.  He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial Panel 75.
