George Dowsett was born on 5 September 1891 at Camberwell, London, the son of Mrs. C S Dowsett. He joined the Royal Navy on 15 January 1913 and served in the cruisers HMS THETIS and HMS CAROLINE before joining submarines. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial Panel 25.
