George Lawson was born in 1914 in Burscough, Lancashire, the son of Henry and May Lawson and the eldest of their seven children.
He joined the Royal Navy in 1938 at Plymouth and in 1939 volunteered for submarines, finishing his training in September and joining HMS NARWHAL at Immingham.
He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, on the Roll of Honour in St John’s Church, Burscough and on the town war memorial at Burscough.
