Norman Lees was my father’s (ERA Richard F Kelley) best man, my father broke down when I asked him about a photograph I have of him and a man I didn’t know both of whom were in their PO’s uniform. Dad was on HMS Starling at the time and it was one of the ships involved in the search for Affray. I cannot imagine what it must have been like searching for your best mate’s submarine, knowing that he was almost certainly dead.
