John Meek was born at Woolwich, London on 12 November 1886. He was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy in 1913 for service in HMS AE1. He lost his life on 14 September when the boat was lost of New Britain in the Pacific Ocean. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
