Robin Meyrick was born in Midhurst, Sussex on 31 July 1939, the son of Lieutenant Commander Michael Donston Capel Meyrick DSO and Jocelyn Meyrick, and the brother of Nicholas Meyrick. He joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet on 1 September 1957 at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
He was promoted to Sub Lieutenant on 1 January 1960 and, in the Spring 1961 Navy List, was noted as serving in HMS ARTEMIS. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 November 1961. The Autumn 1964 Navy List shows him as serving in HMS TIPTOE. In 1966 and 1967 Robin Meyrick was serving in HMS DOLPHIN and was appointed to HMS RESOLUTION (Port), standing by whilst completing at Barrow in Furness ‘and on Commissioning at Barrow’ on 3 October 1967. He completed his Commanding Officer’s Qualifying Course in 1969 and promotion to Lieutenant Commander followed on 1 November 1969.
Robin Meyrick was appointed to HMS OPOSSUM in command on 12 November 1969. Robin Meyrick of Juniper Cottage, Meonstoke, Droxford, Hampshire died on 3 February 1971 after suffering a heart attack whilst OPOSSUM was entering Portsmouth Harbour. He was the husband of Vanessa F Meyrick (née Meares) and they had been married in Chichester in October 1964.
