John Miller was born on 11 January 1925, joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet (E) on 1 January 1943 and was appointed to the (E) Course at the Royal Navy Engineering College, Keyham. He was promoted to Midshipman (E) on 1 April 1943 and to Sub Lieutenant (E) on 1 August 1944. On 27 January 1947, he was appointed the cruiser HMS BIRMINGHAM.

In 1950 he was serving in HMS TOTEM. John Miller is reported to have died on 4 October 1950 and it is understood that he was killed in a road traffic accident on Chesil Beach Road, Portland, Dorset.

John Lindsay Miller of Emsworth, Hants was the husband of Elizabeth Jean Miller, and he is buried in the Portland Naval Cemetery, Grave 798.
