Robert Morrison was born in Mhow, Central India, on 11 May 1891, the second son of Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hobart Morrison and Louise Caroline Crofton Morrison (née Buchanan). He joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet and was promoted to Midshipman on 15 January 1909. Promotion to Sub Lieutenant followed on 30th May 1912.

He was appointed to the Submarine Depot Ship HMS HAZARD ‘for Submarines’ on 18 June 1912.

Sub Lieutenant Morrison was appointed to HMS A7 on 4 December 1913.  A7 was lost as the result of a diving accident in Whitsand Bay, off Plymouth, on 16 January 1914. There were no survivors, and the submarine was not recovered.

Robert Morrison is commemorated on a Memorial Plaque in St Paul’s Church in East Molesey. His elder brother Major R Fielding Morrison RA MC & Bar was killed in action in France on 25 April 1918.
