Edward Price was born on 28 June 1890, the son of Edward George Price (a Merchant) and Henrietta Price (née Keane) of 1, Craven Hill, Hyde Park, London.
He joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet on 15 January 1907 and entered submarines in 1912 receiving instruction for ‘B’ and ‘C’ class submarines in HMS FORTH. In September 1914 he transferred to HMS MAIDSTONE in the 8th Flotilla at Harwich , initially as First Lieutenant in E12, later transferring to E15. When E15 surrendered to Turkish forces on 17 April 1915, Price was the senior surviving officer, the Commanding Officer, Lt Cdr T S Brodie, having been killed during the action.
Price and the rest of the surviving ship’s company were taken to Ankara and then to the Afion Kara Hissar internment camp. In March 1916, Price and a number of others escaped from the camp but were recaptured just over two weeks later and returned to captivity. He died of influenza on 16 October 1918 and is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) Cemetery in Row 21, Plot ‘O’, Grave No 6.
