James “Jimmy” Savell joined the Royal Navy when he was 17 and was due to retire in April 2023, three months after he died, after 43 years of loyal service, 37 of those being in the submarine service. The ships and boats he served on were HMS INVINCIBLE, HMS INTREPID during the Falklands War, HMS OTUS, OSIRIS, VANGUARD and TURBULENT.
