Archibald Stannard was born in Gillingham in Kent (3rd Quarter of 1899), the son of Nathaniel L Stannard (a dockyard labourer) and Mary A Stannard of Shakespeare Road, Gillingham, Kent. He died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident on board HMS K26, under construction at Chatham Dockyard. An explosion in the boiler room occurred while tests were being made to the engines, and he and another workman were enveloped in steam.
He was buried in the Gillingham (Woodlands) Cemetery in Plot BE 1051.
