Lieutenant Commander Norman Teacher was appointed to HMS QUEBEC ‘Combined Operations Pilotage Party’ Base at Inverary.

Whilst serving in HMS UNBENDING on 28 March 1943, they launched a Folbot with a crew of two, Teacher and Lieutenant Noel Cooper (q.v.), for beach reconnaissance ahead of Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily. Teacher failed to return having swum to the shore. Cooper had attempted to search for him in a strong onshore wind but without success.
