Frederick Wall was born at Upper Mitton on 24 August 1884, the son of John and Mary Wall of Stourport, Worcestershire. He was educated at Stourport Boys School. He joined the Royal Navy on 24 August 1902 and re-engaged in 1914, serving in the battleship HMS COLOSSUS from 1914 to April 1915 and, after training at HMS DOLPHIN, in HMS H5 from May 1916. He was first based in the depot ship HMS ALECTO, then HMS VULCAN from 1 May 1917. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 1917 “…for service on submarines in enemy waters”, he also received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
He married Mary Barnbrook in 1915 and they had a daughter, Edith born in 1916.
He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial Panel 26 and in the Roll of Honour held in Worcester Cathedral.
