George Watson was born on 22 February 1959. He was the Outside Engineering Department MEA (“Outside Wrecker”) in HMS SCEPTRE, having replaced CPO Whitwell who had tragically died two years before.
“Soapy” Watson died of a heart attack whilst playing squash in HMS DRAKE. HMS SCEPTRE had just decommissioned and, as the oldest member of the Ship’s Company, he was one of the stars of the show at the decommissioning as he cut the cake. There was a good showing at his funeral in Falkirk and he is buried there in New Grandsable Cemetery.
