John Wilkinson was the son of Harry and Annie Wilkinson of Keighley, Yorkshire and the husband of Helen Wilkinson.
After surviving the sinking of HMS STARFISH he died of a sudden heart attack at Marlag Milag Nord PoW camp on 24 January 1943. He was buried with full military honours on 28 January 1943 at Westertimke, a cemetery built by PoWs close to Marlag Milag Nord before being reinterred at Becklingen.
The crew of STARFISH subscribed £160 for his widow.
