Peter Wiseman was born in 28 June 1914 at Tynemouth to Thomas and Jane Wiseman of Blyth, Northumberland. He died in HMS URGE on 27 April 1942 when the submarine struck a mine off Malta.

On 12 September 1941, Lt Tomkinson had recommended PO Tel Wiseman for an immediate decoration, citing his leadership of the Wireless Telegraphy equipment in HMS URGE which “in a large measure contributed to the successes achieved” by the submarine. All commanders in theatre from Captain Simpson to Admiral Cunningham agreed. In the event Peter Wiseman was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette of 16 December 1941) “for courage, skill and resolution in successful submarine patrols“.

Peter Wiseman is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Panel 68, Column 1, and on the HMS URGE Memorial in Malta.
