HMS

E6

 (1911

 -

1915)

HMS E6 (Lt Cdr W J Foster) sailed from Harwich on 26 December 1915 for a patrol in the North Sea. She struck a mine and was lost with all hands. The loss is the more tragic as a trawler Resono had been lost in the same minefield shortly before. A torpedo boat in the vicinity had warned E6 of the minefield and although it appeared that the signal had been received by E6, she continued without altering course and, in full view of the torpedo boat, struck a mine and disappeared.
