Lieutenant David Bennett Allen, DSC, died on 27 April 1942 when HMS URGE was lost after striking a German mine off Malta.  

He was mentioned in despatches on 16 December 1941 and was awarded the DSC on 29 September 1942 for bravery and devotion to duty on successful submarine patrols in HMS URGE.

He was born on 23 March 1920 at Leek Staffordshire, the son of Engineer Rear Admiral George Bennett Allen and Jessie Josephine Allen.  He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial and the HMS URGE Memorial, Malta.
