Darrell Balkwill, of the Royal Canadian Navy, was the son of Temple Balkwill.   His home was in Vancouver.

According to the Portsmouth Evening News of 4 March 1959, the Canadian rating who was injured in the Southsea taxi crash on 23 February died the previous night in the Royal Portsmouth Hospital.

Another Canadian rating, Francis Burns (q.v), serving in the HMS AENEAS, of South Street, Gosport, was killed when the taxi collided with a lamp standard in Osborne Road. He came from Nova Scotia, where his wife lives. The driver and three other passengers were injured in the accident.
