Thomas Barron was born on 12 April 1920, the son of Thomas and Alice Victoria Barron, of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. He joined the Royal Navy in 1935 and on 3 September 1935 he joined HMS GANGES, Suffolk. He was rated Leading Signalman (Temporary) on 19 September 1940.

He joined submarines on 29 April 1941.  He was drafted to HMS CYCLOPS and to HMS ELFIN, the training base at Blyth.  On 1 July 1941 he joined HMS SUNFISH, possible for training. He took passage in SS CHATEAU THIERRY from Gourock to New York from 4 to 16 February 1942 and was then listed as Spare Crew in HMS SAKER II, in New York.  He then joined HMS P514 and was lost when the submarine was sunk on 21 June 1942.

He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 58 ,Column 2.
